Global Kinetic launches new tech meetup and workshop sessions

Throughout next year, Global Kinetic will be hosting quarterly tech meetups. To launch our new initiative, we have invited Steve Barnett to host a workshop at the Global Kinetic offices to discuss Accessibility and Inclusive Design. Through this event, he will help people develop a more inclusive design mindset (noting that disability is a spectrum, not a binary), as well as give guidance on fulfilling WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) without having to trawl through the hefty official docs.

Steve is a front-end developer and user experience consultant who has spent the majority of his career assisting teams bridge the gap between development and design. He is known for being able to design and develop sites and apps in a future-friendly way, with an eye towards inclusive design, accessibility, and performance. This means sites that everyone can use, regardless of their device, the network they’re on, or any disabilities they might have.

Clients include Prodigy Finance, Code Collective and SnapScan. To quote Steve, “We’re going to get hands-on with practical exercises and tutorials geared towards making our stuff more accessible. If you have a laptop, bring it! We’ll look at ways of testing our work, of having better conversations about them, and will be giving and receiving high fives. :)”

This first workshop is now fully subscribed, so stay tuned for information on the events lineup for the new year.
